TLS remains in a downtrend after failing to break above resistance at $3.26. Trading volume increased last week as TLS sold off and I’m expecting TLS to test support at $2.98 in the short term before having another attempt at breaking that trendline. (Not held)...Show more

The recent earnings rally in TLS has taken the price back up to test trendline resistance. The price has stalled at current levels and is due to go XD on 29th Aug. it’s been a nice bounce from the low $2.60 area which I was fortunate enough to ride but I’m completely out of TLS now as I can see increased downside risk from here whilever TLS is sitting below the current trendline....Show more

Telstra would have to be one of Australia’s most unloved blue chip stocks at the moment and a contrarians dream. At today’s lows of $2.61, anyone who is currently invested in TLS was sitting on a capital loss (excluding dividends). The chart below shows the extent of the painful grind lower in recent years and I would expect the $2.60 level to show some reasonable support in the short term. This is the last line of defence before TLS heads into unchartered territory and a level that everyone should be watching very closely. I’ve recently added a few in anticipation of a short term bounce but if it breaks $2.50 I’m out....Show more

For those interested in Telstra, Roger Montgomery outlines his bull case for investing in the company following its strategy day on 20 June.

There's a lot of bearish views on this stock at the moment, so interesting to hear Roger's bull perspective, particularly with the share price having sunk as low as it has:

So, what was everyone's thoughts on the action plan coming out of Telstra's strategy day today. Anyone a buyer after the share price got trashed.

I must say I was surprised by what happened given the uplift in the price in recent days following a number of equity analysts calling the stock a buy.

Will be interesting to watch what happens tomorrow. I suspect the share price movement will be influence by equity analysts coming out with their reports having had a day to digest what was presented today.

Would be interested in thoughts on Telstra. Surely this, given their dividend history, would be a buy at this price?
Also would be interested in opinion regarding IPD - price has sunk to a low despite their breakthrough drug. I know they did a naughty by failing to report in an issue to the ASX but don’t you think that the reflection in the low share value must be more than this? Is this a buy, hold or sell? Would be interested in the views of other Shsreshakers.

A must read article for anyone contemplating buying shares in Telstra.

Covers all the reasons why the business is struggling and why people should be careful buying even with the historically high dividend and after the share price has fallen to the extent it has.

I reckon it’s worth watching though, particularly as Anton Taglieferro, who is one of the shrewdest investors in the country is accumulating.

TLS has been in a strong downtrend since late 2016 and has declined more than 40% over that period. It’s been a painful ride for many long term investors that were attracted to the high dividends that TLS has been shelling out for many years. Telstra had a nice bounce over the past 2 weeks on the back of a strong overall market but it is unlikely to be a turning point for this stock. As you can see on the chart below, the downtrend remains firmly in place with trend line resistance sitting above the current price. TLS is worth watching for a potential short opportunity. If the rally can push prices high enough to test that resistance level around $3.40 then this would be a good area to look for a short entry signal....Show more
